Keflex Drug

Keflex drug is a popular variety of antibiotic that acts in almost similar fashion like penicillin. In fact, the side effects of the drug are also quite same. It is used to prevent bacteria to form walls around the cells. If the growth of bacteria around the cells is not reduced, then it would lead to several types of infections and disorders. Keflex act as an antibiotic that prevents the growth of bacteria because of its ingredients like Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, etc. Bacteria are vulnerable to these components and thus the growth around the cells is prevented. In January 1971, the drug has got approval by the FDA.

Preparations- The preparations of Keflex drugs include capsules of 250 mg, 333 mg, 500 mg and 750 mg; tablets of 250 mg and 500 mg; and powder for suspension of 125 mg/5ml and 250 mg/5ml. The suspensions must be kept in the refrigerator and abandoned after two weeks, while the capsules and tablets must be at room temperature.

Why it is used- Keflex drugs are used for the treatments of various types of infections. These infections are bacteria generated such as bronchitis, laryngitis, tonsil infections, ear infection, throat infection and pneumonia. In fact, this medication is also effective for the treatment of several bone, skin and urinary tract infections.

Who should avoid- These drugs must be avoided by pregnant women and nursing mothers. Studies have shown that Keflex has no good effect during pregnancy. In case, there are no other alternatives, it can be used, but only on the advice of physicians. Nursing mothers should avoid Keflex as it includes cephalosporin compounds. In breast milk, cephalosporin gets excreted, and it is better to stop taking the drug or at least stop breastfeeding during the course of the medicine.
